Wilmington, or ‘Wilmywood’ as it is oft referred to, is a major film hub where countless movies and TV shows can be in production at the one time (the two days I was in town three blockbusters and a TV series were being filmed – not too shabby for this small port city). Naturally this creates a demand for quality food and the good folk of Wilmington are happy to provide.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to dine at Catch, a modern seafood restaurant where former Top Chef reality show contestant Keith Rhodes embraces all that the Cape Fear coast has in abundance. Especially partial to wild caught and sustainably raised seafood, Rhodes menu is a well thought out affair offering creative takes on the day’s fresh catch.

The North Carolina blue crab claw scampi served in warm chardonnay butter literally melted in my mouth and I followed with the jumbo lump crab cakes with white truffle mash and lobster cognac bisque to complete my crab fix.

Alas there were no celebrity sightings for me on the night, though I did get mistaken for Jennifer Anniston which was almost as enjoyable as my crab supper, and Gwyneth Paltrow blogged about Catch on her site, Goop so technically I had a brush with a celebrity, right? Plus I did get to meet James Beard nominee Keith Rhodes & his wife Angela who are total celebrities in their own rights…
