The Watson

In May of last year one of my closest friends invited me to attend her wedding in Adelaide, South Australia. Despite being in the midst of finishing up my final semester of my Masters I readily agreed, deciding to drive the 730 some kilometres, dropping my two off at their dad’s on the way. Mid decision I received an email alerting me to the fact that the Art Series Hotel Group were offering reverse reviews (whereby the hotel becomes the reviewer & the guest a reviewee) & would I like to be involved – um, yeah… And so I came to be a guest at one of the most stunning boutique hotels Adelaide has to offer.

The Watson opened in mid 2014 & is a sibling to the Art Series Hotel Group’s Melbourne offerings, The Cullen, The OlsenThe Blackman, recently opened The Larwill Studio, & The Schaller Studio in Bendigo.

Located on Adelaide’s iconic River Torrens at Walkerville, a leafy village just ten minutes from the CBD, The Watson is named after the grand master of indigenous painting, Tommy Watson & showcase works from the artist throughout the rooms and public areas.

I arrived in quite the state (9 hours on the road will do that to you) but was greeted warmly & with minimal fuss (actually, no fuss at all) was on my way to my room – a Deluxe Studio Sweet no less. Comprising a large kitchenette, king size bed, couch, dining table & chairs, workspace, art library, wifi, a 42″ TV with Foxtel & an ensuite, it’s safe to say that I had no intention of giving up my room at the end of my two night stay…

I got this bed all to myself!

I didn’t make it to their in-house restaurant, The Local Grind, nor did I manage to squeeze in room service from nearby cafe, bar & bistro, Nest as I was caught up with family & wedding business, but I did manage a stroll along the River Torrens each morning, refreshed from a ridiculously good sleep.

As for my review, naturally I got five stars. Alas I can’t seem to find the link to it so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Disclaimer: I stayed as a guest of The Watson for one night, but paid my own way the second.

The Watson, 33 Warwick St, Walkerville, SA
